What is a piezo scaler?
Piezo Scalers offer a more effective and comfortable patient experience, for removing plaque and calculus, when compared to traditional hand scaling. Piezo Ultrasonic Scalers operate using precise, single-plane liner oscillations to ensure that patient mucosal tissue remains undamaged.
What are the four types of ultrasonic scaler tips?
Most of the scaling power is available at the tip, which is cooled with a jet of water. There are three basic types – magnetostrictive, piezo-electric and Odontoson™.
How long do cavitron inserts last?
Inserts will last approximately 8-15 months depending on the type of tip and hours used. Periodically check Inserts for wear with the Cavitron™ Insert Efficiency Indicator. Are your Cavitron™ inserts worn? for SRP procedures.
How do you sterilize a cavitron insert?
Sterilization – Sterilize inserts in an instrument cassette or paper pouch in a steam autoclave. Steam sterilize for at least 4 minutes at 270°F/132°C or 30 minutes at 250°F/121°C. Do not heat above 275°F/135°C. Drying – 30 minutes of drying time is recommended after steam sterilization, prior to use.
Why are my cavitron tips bending?
Improper Sterilization and Maintenance If your office uses sterilization pouches instead, always use caution when placing the insert in the ultrasonic bath or autoclave as heavier instruments placed on top can cause bending/breakage of the tip and/or stack.
How much is a Dentsply Cavitron?
What is an ultrasonic dental scaler?
Ultrasonic scalers use ultrasound to remove calculus deposits from your teeth more effectively. They work mechanically using high vibrational energy that effectively blasts calculus, so it is easier to remove.
Which is better piezo or cavitron?
Both piezo and magnetostrictive (eg. Cavitron) can be effective if used correctly. The Cavitron has more active surfaces and so is somewhat less technique sensitive when it comes to calculus removal. BUT it is more technique sensitive when it comes to minimizing root damage.
What is the difference between a cavitron and piezo?
Magnetostrictive products, such as Dentsply’s Cavitron, have a linear or elliptical movement where all surfaces and sides are active. Whereas, with the Piezo scalers the tip movement is linear with just two sides being active.
