Is Wildlife Prairie Park in Peoria Illinois Open?

Open year round! Just 10 miles west of downtown Peoria. Wildlife Prairie Park is conveniently located 2.5 miles south of I-74. In order to ensure each guest is able to enjoy the Park, we limit the last admission to the Park one hour before closing.

Where can I see wolves in Illinois?

In Lockport, Illinois, there is a sanctuary for North American animals, mainly wolves. Many people don’t know that Big Run Wolf Ranch exists, even though it has been in existence for 30 years.

Does Wildlife Prairie Park have wolves?

Are dogs allowed at Wildlife Prairie Park?

For the safety and well being of our guests and animals, Wildlife Prairie Park does not allow dogs or other pets inside the East Side gates. This includes emotional support animals. Animals who are licensed to be service animals are allowed everywhere in the Park except for the animal trails.

From a scientific wildlife management standpoint, the simple answer is no. No longer are there populations of bears, mountain lions and wolves in Illinois.

Where are mountain lions in Illinois?

There are no known cougar populations in Illinois. While the IDNR does investigate several alleged cougar sightings each year, most if not all turn out to be a case of mistaken identity. The animals most often mistaken for cougars are coyotes, bobcats, or large domestic dogs or cats.

The bobcat is the only wild cat native to Illinois. There are no populations of cougars living in Illinois, but the cat can be seen occasionally passing through the state in their travels. Bobcats are much smaller than cougars. They both prefer to stay away from humans and keep to themselves.
