Plenty of action, drama, love interest, and humor. Sharpe goes from being hated by the ‘enlisted men’ due to his being promoted from the ranks instead of buying his commission, as the ‘high-born’ gentlemen did, to being respected and even loved by his men. He suffers incompetent officers, and usually finds a way to save the mission.
