Are EJ engines good?

Are EJ engines good?

A: The EJ-series motors are good motors, and we would not call them “weak” per se. On a stock motor, the two primary weaknesses are the stock cast hypereutectic pistons and oiling to the rod bearings. The pistons (particularly on the EJ255 and EJ257) will crack if subjected to knock/detonation events.

Is the Subaru 2.5 a good engine?

A modern Subaru 2.5L engine should have no problem lasting over 200,000 miles as long as you take care of it. There are plenty of 2.5L engines that have lasted over 300,000 miles as well when owners have done the regular maintenance on them such as oil changes, spark plug changes, and coolant changes.

What is the difference between EJ255 and EJ257?

The only difference between them was the turbo and intercooler set-up, and the tuning of the ECU. Starting with the 2006 – 2007 WRX and Forester XT, this was the first point where the EJ255 actually started to receive different parts from the STI.

Is the h4 engine turbocharged?

Packing 120 hp/L, Subaru’s turbocharged 2.5L DOHC H-4 is one of the most exciting engines available in the U.S. at any price. Its relative affordability only underscores its brilliant performance and technical sophistication.

Why are EJ Motors unreliable?

The truth is that most EJ failures are attributed to people using poor quality oil, not checking/ changing oil, poor modifications being installed, and the number one cause of killing an EJ motor is improper/ poor tuning, or no tuning after performing mods!!

Is Subaru 2.5 underpowered?

The Outback with the base engine feels relatively underpowered and isn’t as fun to drive. The extra power from the turbocharged engine makes merging onto the highway or passing a slow-moving truck a lot easier.

How long will a Subaru 2.5 last?

While results will vary and the big variable is always how well the car has been maintained, what I can tell you is a Subaru is capable of going 300,000 miles. And if you are a regular maintenance type of owner you should expect to get that type of mileage out of it.

How much horsepower can a EJ257 handle?

400 whp
They will hold up to 400 whp (again as shown in our PPIHC car), but if you want to push up to or beyond that power level, a set of aftermarket H-Beam rods would be recommended.

Does EJ257 have forged internals?

No stock 255 or 257 is forged pistons. Any 255 or 257 should work fine but the same year and model motor that came with the car will be easiest to deal with. There are differences and the ecu tune reflects this.

Are H4 engines reliable?

These are great engines with the qualifier that the head gaskets are a problem area. Use Subaru’s anti-leak in the radiator and keep it well serviced and it should last a long time. Mine went 200,000 miles with no problems other than a seeping head gasket.

Is Subaru H4 a boxer engine?

The four-cylinder, horizontally opposed “Boxer” engine is so ubiquitous within Subaru that it’s only been substantially redesigned once since 1966.

Are the Subaru FA engines reliable?

That said, the FA20’s are solid engines overall that provide a solid balance of reliability, performance, and efficiency. Maintain them well and you’ll likely have a good experience for many years to come. What’s your experience with the Subaru FA20 engine?

Is the FA motor better than the EJ?

While the EJ motors remain sensitive to knock conditions and tuners do everything in their power to prevent detonation, the FA motors are even more sensitive and the challenges of direct injection have made avoiding knock much harder.

Is Subaru 2.5 L h4 a good engine?

Why is my Subaru Outback so loud?

A failing or dirty sensor can send incorrect data, resulting in too much or too little fuel going to the engine. This can result in a rough running engine that is louder than normal. Bad or Dirty Spark Plugs: Bad spark plugs can cause the vehicle to misfire which will make it run louder.

Do Subarus last as long as Toyotas?

Overall, Toyotas are more reliable than Subarus. They have consistently won more distinctions and awards across all models and have higher scores with both Consumer Reports and J.D. Power.

How long will a EJ257 last?

With stock boost it’s pretty uncommon for the turbo to give out before 125,000+ miles. Add in more and more boost and the turbo likely won’t last as long. Some may hold up for 100,000+ miles. Other EJ257 turbos may let go earlier than 50,000 miles.
