UN38. 3 is the prevailing United Nations standard that lithium batteries must meet to receive certification for safe transport. Lithium batteries must undergo a rigorous series of tests performed by an approved independent testing laboratory to ensure they do not rupture, leak, disassemble, or catch fire.
What is UN3480?
The batteries UN3480 are lithium ion batteries, rechargeable, without equipment. The lithium ion batteries UN3480 are classified: Class 9 – UN3480 – Lithium ion batteries – Batteries that are not packed with or installed with the equipment.
What UN38 8?
UN38.3.4.8: LiPo Battery Forced discharge Each lithium-ion cell shall be forced discharge at ambient temperature by connecting it in series with a 12v D.C. power supply at an initial current equal to the maximum discharge current specified by the manufacturer.
What is the difference between UN3481 and UN3480?
If you’re shipping lithium ion batteries as a standalone, use a battery label with UN3480. Standalone means the package only contains batteries and nothing else. If you’re shipping lithium ion batteries contained in or packed with equipment, use a battery label with UN3481.

Is UL2054 mandatory?
Although UL2054 is not a mandated test for products shipped into the US, it is often mandated by US end device standards and it is a pretty severe test as it requires a single fault to be applied on the battery pack.

Can I fly with UN3480?
