Can you cycle in the Yorkshire Dales?
The Dales are known as one of the UK’s finest adventurous mountain biking areas. We have more than 900 km (600 miles) of bridleways, byways and green lanes to explore, often taking you up into remote moorland. Take on tough climbs and technical descents, all in remote, unspoilt countryside.
Can you cycle the Dales High Way?
The Yorkshire Dales Cycleway (YDCW) is a superb but challenging 210km (130 mile) circular route visiting most of the major dales in the Yorkshire Dales ational Park. It is designed to be started and finished in Skipton, but it can be started at any point, or divided into sections to suit your fitness.
Can you walk the Swale trail?
On the short steep section across the river at Keld you may wish to walk. Keld may be tiny but has parking, a café, toilets and an interesting museum in a small space. Remember – this is a multi-user route and you will meet walkers, horse riders and other cyclists.

How hard is it? Anyone who is reasonably fit can walk the Cleveland Way. The route is challenging in places, especially the coastal sections, which adds to the overall experience. Whilst the route is well signed throughout, an up to date map or GPS mapping is essential.

The coastal path does get very muddy and of a type that is difficult to walk on. Also, the coastal resorts and picturesque fishing ports are very popular in July and August and during any Bank Holiday. So find a time when the path is dry and the tourists are absent.

The trail comes to an end around Oakenshaw but you have the option of continuing along the National Cycle Network into Bradford which is only a few miles further north. If you’re on foot then you can link up with either the Kirklees Way or the Spen Way Heritage Trail at Oakenshaw.

This is another lovely, safe, flat 2.7 mile off road route for new riders from the village of Spofforth where there is a castle and lovely playground to the Town of Wetherby where there are plenty of cafés, however, the town is busy and you will have to walk your bikes into the town.
