What is ISSS?

ISSS provides visa and immigration advising to F-1 and J-1 international students at UCSC. ISSS also provides workshops, information, and referrals to international students regarding cultural, personal, and other concerns.

Since this is a temporary stay document that only allows 30 days stay in the U.S., it is very important that you contact OIS immediately upon arrival to fix your status to F-1 or J-1 D/S.

What is iStart and how do I use it?

It is the portal for F and J visa holders at Georgia Tech to make requests for updates to the I-20/DS-2019 as well as view basic SEVIS status information. Requests such as Program Extensions, Academic Reduced Course Loads, Change of Degree Level, are processed based on e-form requests available in iStart.

How long does it take to hear back from ISSS?

Once a complete application has been sent to ISSS, you should hear back within five business days, as stated above. Please DO NOT call the office or send an e-mail about your pending request, as the ISSS Front Desk will not be able to provide an update on the status of your document.
