What is the difference between 250 ohm and 600 ohm?
Sonically, the differences are minimal and probably not even discernable of the headphone itself, but more the amplifiers being used for them. The 250ohm and 600ohm are the same headphone with a different impedance rating, nothing more. The point is simply to match the right impedance with an appropriate amp.
Does 80 ohm need an amp?
The majority of 80 Ohm headphones need a headphone amp and any that don’t need one will show a noticeable benefit from an amp. 32 Ohm headphones generally need less power from an amp, either dedicated or built into the device, compared to 80 ohm headphones which will require more power.
Does Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO 80 Ohm need an amp?
Beyerdynamic’s 990 Pro needs an amp to drive these headphones properly. Unfortunately unlike the DT770 Pro, there is no version that runs without an amp but these deliver great performance. Another important factor is the sensitivity which is 96dB per mW so that means this pair of headphones is not the most efficient.

Do you need an amp for DT 990 PRO?
The DT 990 Pro, without a doubt, requires an amp. These come in at an impedance of 250 ohms and a sensitivity of 99dB. This is the first headphone that actually required me to set my amplifier (JDS Labs Element II) to High-Gain. The Sennheiser HD 6XX was actually easier to drive than these, and so was the DT 1990 Pro.
Do I need amp for Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80 Ohm?
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro Beyerdynamic’s DT770 Pro is a solid option for those who want a closed-back experience. What is the difference between 250 Ohm and 80 Ohm?
At 80 Ohm, the headphones have more bass and less prominent treble. At higher volumes, 80 Ohm will produce even more bass. The 250 Ohm version has a similar bass response but has more high-end to even the sound out more. It also has a bit more mid-bass and sub-bass roll-off.
Do I need amp for 250 ohms?
You can technically use 250-ohm headphones without an amplifier; however, the audio that is produced will be sub-par to what they are designed for, outputting a meager volume (if any volume at all), having distortion in low frequencies, and being muddy.
