NeoRecormon is a clear, colourless solution for injection under the skin (subcutaneously) or into a vein (intravenously). It contains a hormone called epoetin beta, which stimulates the production of red blood cells.
How do you administer epoetin beta?
For adults, inject this medication into a vein or under the skin as directed by your doctor, usually every 2 to 4 weeks. Hemodialysis patients should receive this medication by injection into a vein. For children, inject this medication only into a vein as directed by the doctor, usually every 4 weeks.
How do you give NeoRecormon?
Form a skin fold by pinching the skin between thumb and forefinger. Hold the syringe barrel near to the needle, and insert the needle into the skin fold with a quick, firm action. Inject the Recormon solution. Withdraw the needle quickly and apply pressure over the injection site with a dry, sterile pad.
How do you administer NeoRecormon?
NeoRecormon should be administered either subcutaneously or intravenously in order to increase haemoglobin to not greater than 12 g/dl (7.5 mmol/l). Subcutaneous use is preferable in patients who are not receiving haemodialysis to avoid puncture of peripheral veins.
When should you not give recormon?
Recormon should be used with caution in the presence of refractory anemia with excess blasts in transformation, epilepsy, thrombocytosis and chronic liver failure. Folic acid and vitamin B 12 deficiencies should be ruled out as they reduce the effectiveness of Recormon.
