How much par is needed for Acans?

Lighting & Flow Requirements: Aussie Hulk Acan Lord Coral requires moderate water flow and low to moderate lighting (PAR 120-250). T5’s, Metal Halides, or LED’s can all grow Acan Lord Corals when the proper PAR levels are provided. We recommend a 14-20K color spectrum for best coloration.

Where should Acans be placed in tank?

The best placement for an Acan coral is in a location with moderate water flow & light intensity, six inches or farther away from neighboring corals. Too much water flow or light will damage the coral. Acans will damage other corals closer than 6-inches.

Do you dip ACAN coral?

Acans do not like coral rx in my experience but I too always use both dips. I would dip in the reef dip again but not the coral rx and then give it a few days. If feeding tantacles come out feed it some soaked pellets.

How do you acclimate ACAN coral?

Don’t forget to acclimate your coral appropriately. Some people just float the bag for 30 minutes then drop them into the tank. I would err on the side of caution and dip the coral to remove and bacteria, parasites and or hitchhikers for 5-10 minutes.

Do Acans like high flow?

Acan Coral prefer a low to medium flow. This allows food to flow to the coral as well as remove mucus and bad nutrients from the coral. Too much flow can cause the large, fleshy polyps of the Acan Coral to either stay retracted, be ripped off the skeleton.

My acans keep their rainbow colors well but not all of them. Some acans prefer higher light and actually lose some of their amazing colors under lower light.

In nature, Acan corals colonies are massive and usually flat, reaching 2 – 3 meters in diameter. Each coral has a calcium skeleton (collarites) beneath soft fleshy polyps.

How much light do ACAN corals need?

Acan Corals tend to prefer the lower side of lighting intensity. Provided the PAR is at least 25-50, you should be fine. You may need to experiment with what the particular Acan coral likes best.
