How do you bivvy in the rain?
I put my boots inside the bivy bag just above my head which holds the material off my face and use my outer clothes as a pillow, again inside the bag. Normally have it slightly unzipped, but in heavy rain I zip it fully shut and it’s not too claustrophobic.

You CAN utilize a tarp as a tent footprint. Due to the tarps’ durability, we often use them to protect the tent’s exterior from the elements. Therefore, a tarp can be used under the tent to protect the bottom from the elements and ground debris as well.

For solo missions in the high country when you don’t need more than weather protection while sleeping, the Outdoor Research Alpine Bivy uses GORE-TEX® Respiration Positive fabric to keep you dry. Is the Alpine waterproof bivy ventilated?
As with even the best ventilated waterproof bivies, it’s likely you will still accumulate some moisture inside. A feature unique to the Alpine is that the floor is coated with an anti-fungal treatment. On long trips, mildew and mold were not present despite intense moisture and humidity.
How much does the Alpine bivy weigh?
As you can see from the side to side photos below, the original Alpine (left) weighs in at about 811 grams vs. the 2019 Alpine, which tips the scales around 586 grams. We’re still trying to wrap our minds around how Outdoor Research shaved over 200 grams off the original and still left us with the ultimate in weatherproof bivys.
